Eckert Seamans Faces Second Class Action Over Data Breach

An alumnae of Wheeling Jesuit University filed a class action complaint against Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, the university’s former counsel, alleging the firm maintained and stored personal identifying information without proper encryption. The plaintiff, Erin Hettman, alleged “an unauthorized actor” stole the information from an attorney’s computer at the firm for over a month, and that the firm notified alumni months after the April data breach.
